Although Ahmed can speak perfect Spanish, he is an Arab male from a very patriarchal Middle Eastern country, even more so from a specific region within that country that is even more patriarchal. They are seen as mere property of their husbands. The husband has the right to hit and punish his wife however he pleases, and during weddings in that region, the groom is always gifted a rod or whip as a symbol of his duty to discipline his wife when he chooses, either for correction or simple pleasure. In the wedding ritual, when the rod or whip is handed to the groom, elegantly dressed in very tight silk trousers, he must begin to administer lashes to the bride who will be kneeling before him, symbolizing her submission. Only when the groom experiences an erection from delivering the punishment, visible through the tight silk fabric of the trousers, will he be considered a valid husband, and then the ceremony concludes. The men in that region are very patriarchal and all marry while fully complying with that ritual. If in that region it is detected that a boy does not have a masculine expression or is effeminate and passive, the community automatically considers him as an inferior being, as if he were a woman, and deprives him of all his rights as a man because he enjoys being penetrated anally, enjoys being penetrated as if he were a female.
